The most important person in my life, the person who has had the greatest influence on me, was my Dad. My Dad grew up in the depression, served in World War II, raised a family, and worked hard his entire life. He faced more obstacles and hardships than most people, but I never saw him give up or even think about it. He didn’t quit when his daughter died at two weeks, when his wife died in her early forties, when the economy tanked, when his health began to fail. Like a force of nature, he just kept going. It was my Dad who taught me that however bad things are for me someone else’s struggle is even greater. He taught me not to bring a problem to the table unless I also bring a solution. The most important lesson he taught me is that listening is far more valuable than shouting empty words. My dad passed away ten years ago, I think about him every single day and I miss him. I am proud to say that I am truly my father’s son.
